Navy Beans and Turkey Tails: Slow Cooker

I love to season my beans with smoked turkey, preferably smoked turkey legs. This time around I decided to try something new…turkey tails. They’re actually used a lot to season greens and beans. Some people make smothered turkey tails and rice.

Ingredients:

1 bag of Navy beans

4 to 6 smoked Turkey Tails

1/2 a red or yellow onion

4 cloves of garlic

1 packet of Lipton onion soup mix

Fresh ground pepper

Smoked paprika

Mrs. Dash non-salt seasoning

Dried basil and thyme

4-6 cups of water

2 bay leaves

Cilantro

Directions:

Pour the navy beans into a colander and remove the bad ones. Wash the beans with a vinegar and water mixture.

Put them into the slow cooker and add the turkey tails, garlic, onion, and seasonings.

Let the dish cook on high for 5 to 6 hours. The taste is amazing.

The turkey tails add loads of flavor and just enough meat. There’s a lot of fat on them but just pull it off. I can’t believe I not only cooked turkey tails but ate them! They were delicious!

Stay blessed,
