I know this will be a shocker but when I cook burgers at home, I don’t use bread or a bun. I haven’t for years, but I decided to switch things up when I came across a recipe that took all the ingredients of a cheeseburger and grilled it together like a grilled cheese sandwich. To make this meal gluten-free, I used corn tortillas.
I made two attempts at this recipe: quesadillas and tacos. We’ll start with the tacos which are what I prefer.
Ingredients (all gluten-free)
- Ground turkey
- Corn tortillas
- Onion
- Tomatoes
- Dill Pickle
- Ketchup
- Lettuce
- Worcestershire sauce
- Lawry’s seasoning salt
- Fresh ground pepper
- Loads of cheese. Your preference.
Cook the ground turkey and then add the seasonings, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and top it all with loads of cheese.
Meantime, brown the corn tortillas in a non-stick pan. Now build your tacos, adding the meat and cheese mixture and your toppings. It tastes just like a cheeseburger.
Now here’s my attempt at a quesadilla.
Brown the ground turkey and add the Lawry’s seasoning salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Brown a corn tortilla and build your quesadilla.
Layer on onion, pickle, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, cheese, and lettuce.
I put a browned corn tortilla on top and tried to press it all together but it didn’t really work. Everything fell apart and I had to use a fork. So, I’ll stick with the tacos. Let me know which way works better for you.
Stay blessed,
Barbie
