Italian Black-Eyed Peas: New Year’s Recipe

Anyone with Southern roots knows that if you want good luck, you must eat black-eyed peas, pork, and greens on January 1st. I’m dropping the pork but I’ll definitely have a bowl of black-eyed peas with a side salad. Here is my quick and easy recipe.

Italian Black-Eyed Peas:

1 packet of Italian seasoning

1 pound bag of black-eyed peas,

4 to 6 slices of turkey bacon cut into pieces

1 diced medium onion

Veggie broth

4 chopped cloves of garlic

Parsley and oregano

Turmeric & nutritional yeast (optional)

Ground pepper

*Put everything in a slow cooker. Don’t add salt because there’s plenty in the Italian seasoning and vegetable broth. Set Crockpot on low and let it cook for 4 to 5 hours. I put a little cilantro on top of the dish when I serve it. Enjoy.

Have a blessed New Year,

Barbie
